Heart of Dixie Cardiology offers multiple heart- and vascular-related procedures and treatments. Some procedures can be performed in one of our office locations, while others are performed at the hospital. You can rest assured that you will receive your procedure from a board-certified and experienced physician. Common procedures performed by our knowledgeable and skilled providers include pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac ablation, cardiac catheterization, cardiac stents, vascular angiograms, vascular stents, vein ablation, and electrical cardioversions.
Catheter ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that is used for the treatment of heart arrhythmias. There are multiple types of catheter ablations, with ablation being an excellent treatment option for most people. Ablations are done on an outpatient basis, allowing most people to go home the same day as their procedure.
Cardiac catheterization is a diagnostic tool used to evaluate several things in your heart, including the arteries that supply blood to the muscle of the heart, different blood pressures in the heart, lung blood pressure, heart valves, holes in the heart, and more. When we find a restriction in the artery, our interventional cardiologists can often open the artery up with ballooning (also called angioplasty) and stenting. Stents are very small wire mesh tubing often coated in medication. Stents help to stabilize the artery and keep it open to allow blood to flow freely down the artery.
Arrhythmias may be intermittent or they may be persistent. When an arrhythmia is persistent, one option that may be used to restore the heart back to normal rhythm is to undergo a cardioversion. A cardioversion is a quick procedure that uses electricity to shock your heart back to normal rhythm.
An ICD is a cardiac device that gets implanted in the chest. It functions like a pacemaker to treat any slow rhythm issues, but it also has the advanced capability of providing a lifesaving shock in the setting of a potentially lethal ventricular arrhythmia. An ICD may be implanted on a preventative basis for those at risk for ventricular arrhythmias, or it may be implanted for those who have known sustained ventricular arrhythmias.
An implantable loop recorder (ILR) is a type of heart monitoring device that gets implanted just beneath the skin on the left side of the chest. Depending on the manufacturer, the battery of an ILR lasts anywhere from two to five years, which allows for long term heart rhythm monitoring. An ILR may be implanted for palpitations or arrhythmias, or to evaluate the cause of someone’s syncope or stroke.
A pacemaker is a cardiac device that gets implanted in the chest. It is a high functioning device that is used to help treat slow rhythm problems or syncope. There are many different types of pacemakers and we can help you determine what type of pacemaker will best suit your needs.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition where plaque builds up and narrows the arteries throughout the body and can happen with some internal organs in the arms, legs, and neck. Peripheral artery intervention alleviates symptoms by clearing plaque in the arteries and restoring or increasing blood flow downstream to the affected areas. Heart of Dixie Cardiology offers multiple treatments and procedures for peripheral artery disease.

A venous ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that treats vein problems like varicose veins and spider veins. In venous ablations, we’ll direct heat to the afflicted area, which will cause blood to flow into the surrounding healthy veins. This procedure lessens leg pain, swelling, and vein visibility.
